Let **a** be the number that Albert has in mind

1. If we add 5 to this number a+5.

2. Let’s double this number 2(a+5).

3. Let’s subtract 6 from this number 2(a+5)-6.

4. Let’s divide this number by 2 , \large \frac{2(a+5)-6}{2}

\large \frac{2(a+5)-6}{2}=8

\large 2(a+5)-6=16

\large 2(a+5)=22

\large (a+5)=11

\large a=6

**Answer:** 5
